What is a seated calf raise?
A seated calf raise primarily trains the soleus, a major muscle located underneath the gastrocnemius in the lower leg. Because the exercise is performed with the knees bent, it provides a different stimulus from standing calf raises. This makes seated calf raises a valuable addition to a complete lower-body training programme.
What is a tibia trainer?
A tibia trainer, also known as a tibialis trainer, is designed to strengthen the muscles at the front of the lower leg, particularly the tibialis anterior. The tibialis anterior contributes to movements such as lifting the front of the foot and controlling the ankle during walking, running and other activities. By combining tibialis training with seated calf raises, this machine allows users to train both sides of the lower leg from one dedicated station.
Two essential lower-leg movements. One machine.
✅ Seated Calf Raise
Targets the calf musculature, with particular emphasis on the soleus when performed with the knees bent.
✅ Tibia Raise
Targets the tibialis anterior at the front of the lower leg.
Why combine them?
Instead of purchasing separate machines or using improvised methods for tibialis training, this machine provides both movements in one dedicated station.
Why train the tibialis anterior?
The tibialis anterior plays an important role in ankle and foot movement.
Dedicated tibialis training can complement: calf training, running training, lower-body strength training, athletic conditioning, general ankle and lower-leg development.
Flexible plate-loaded resistance
The machine uses a plate-loaded resistance system, allowing users to progressively increase resistance as their strength develops.
Why plate-loaded?
✅ Progressive overload
Add resistance as your lower-leg strength improves.
✅ Flexible loading
Use the weight plates already available in your gym.
✅ Simple operation
No selector pin or complicated weight-stack mechanism.
✅ Ideal for serious training
Particularly well suited to facilities that already use Olympic or plate-loaded equipment.
Ideal for:
✅ Commercial gyms: A dedicated lower-leg station that adds something different from standard leg machines.
✅ Personal training studios: Useful for coaches programming comprehensive lower-leg development.
✅ Sports performance facilities: Particularly relevant for athletes whose programmes include running, jumping and lower-body strength work.
✅ Hotels and residential gyms: A compact machine that provides two specialised movements.
✅ Serious home gyms: For customers who want dedicated lower-leg equipment rather than improvised calf/tibialis exercises.
Why use a dedicated calf & tibia machine?
A dedicated machine provides: a consistent setup, dedicated support, controlled resistance, easy loading, repeatable positioning, dedicated tibialis training.
A leg press or Smith Machine can be useful for calf raises, but they don't provide the same specialised setup for both calf and tibialis training.
